Gemeentemuseum Weesp, Weesp Netherlans

The museum is situated on the second floor of the Town Hall of Weesp which was built by the Dutch architect Jacob Otten Husley between 1772-1776. The building was not only used as the seat for the Municipality but also used as a Court of Justice. Evidence of this is found in the presence of two dungeons and a ‘Vierschaar’ (this was the actual place where the sentence was publicly read out to the suspect) in the Town Hall. Famous in Weesp was the cocoa- and chocolate factory, Van Houten, which was situated in Weesp between 1850-1971. Van Houten spent a fortune on advertising and many examples of this are to be seen in the museum. In 2006 the Archaeological Room was redesigned and shows objects found during archaeological research in Weesp.
